Dear Members,

This is the pre-season newsletter to update you on the AGM and to remind you when club nights start again in September.

Review of AGM (12^th May 2003)

Officers for 2003/2004

Chairperson – Carol Harding
Secretary – John Sleath
Treasurer – Harry Highfield
Match Secretary – Kerry Riley
Committee –Phil Herbert, Adrian Mateo, Ko Leong, Andy Cheuk
Selection Committee –Ray Harding, Chris Wardle, Dev Keshwala, Jayne Hill

Club Fees

This has been kept at £55 for full membership and £30 for Junior membership. This is on the proviso that court and shuttle costs do not increase substantially this season. It is proposed that members pay a minimum fee of £20 by the end of September 2002 (to cover BA of E registration). Only members who have paid can be considered for teams.

Shuttle fee (£2) and match fee (£3) as for last season. No club night fee for those coaching at the Junior Club.

Dates of Terms

Leisure Centre – 5^th September 2003 to19^th December 2003
Grammar School – 8^th September 2003 to 15^th December 2003
Spring term – 4^th January 2004 to 29^th March 2004

Selection Nights

September – see enclosed letter.

Courts

Mondays – 4 courts. First Monday of each month club night only (no matches).
Fridays – 3 courts 8-11 pm during September. From October, 2 courts 7-8 pm, 4 courts 8-10 pm and 3 courts 10-11 pm.

Matches on Fridays will now start at 7pm to allow matches to finish on time.

2002/2003 Results

NHL1 – WINNERS DIV 1
NHL II – RELEGATED
NHL III – RELEGATED
MIXED II - RELEGATED
LADIES I - RELEGATED
LADIES II – RELEGATED

All other teams remained in the same division.

Junior Club

Extra help will be needed next season and if you are interested in learning to coach, use the junior club as a starting point and the club will be willing to help with the funding. Speak to Janice Twist for more information.

Men’s Teams
It was decided to enter a 4^th Mens team into the league next season.

Recruitment
This is a general problem in Leicestershire, not specific to our club. It has been especially difficult to recruit new women players. Several suggestions were made:
a) first year membership free (just pay £15 affiliation fee) for young people
b) offer coaching
c) advertise in the local universities and colleges (Action Adrian, Chris, Ko)
d) e mail UK clubs via BA of E website to let young people who are moving into the area know about the club
e) set up club website (Action Carol to ask Phil)
f) report in Loughborough Echo (Action Jayne)
If you can help with any of these ideas, please let Carol or one of the committee know.

If they have changed, please let me have your telephone numbers and addresses at the beginning of the season so I can update the contact list.
